HISTORICAL-CULTURAL Datalink Entry:
TERMINUS (Sorel, Jules; Summary):
"Terminus was sighted in 2012 by Jules
Sorel during the Third Transantarctic
Safari. He kept detailed notes and some
old-fashioned still holo records now so
fragmented that most resolution has been
lost."
"Mean temperature, according to Sorel,
is 15 degrees Celsius, (60 degrees
Fahrenheit); heat source unknown but
presumed to be geothermal. Terminus has
never been detected from satellite or
airship overflights, and its precise
location is unknown. Reasons unclear,
but speculate that Terminus is shaded by
ice overhang or significant rock
outcroppings. Sorel claims he planted
some modified beech and conifers, ferns,
even grasses. This claim cannot be
substantiated."
"Terminus would have to be located
within this region, since the route of
the Third Transantarctic Safari was
inaccurately documented, since it was
done on foot and without modern tracking
satellites. Antarctic government has
mounted seven expeditions in the past
sixty-five years to look for Terminus.
All were unsuccessful. Much of the
continent remains unexplored. Here are
the records of the seven expeditions."
